About BestStories.in
BestStories.in started with a simple problem: the best stories from around the world were scattered across thousands of sites, poorly formatted, cluttered with ads, and almost impossible to read on a phone at bedtime. We wanted one place, clean and readable, with the stories that actually deserve to be read.
The collection covers traditions that have survived for centuries because they work: the Panchatantra, India's 2,300-year-old treasury of animal fables and wisdom. Aesop's Fables, compact moral stories that have outlasted every civilization that told them. Arabian Nights, a world of adventure, magic, and narrative ingenuity that still influences storytelling today. Kerala Folk Tales, stories from South India that carry the particular wisdom of that landscape and culture. And more — moral stories, bedtime stories, funny stories, stories for every age and occasion.
What We Believe About Stories
Stories are not just entertainment, though they are certainly that. They are how human beings have always transmitted understanding across generations — the understanding of what it means to be honest, brave, kind, clever, careful, or foolish. A child who hears the story of the tortoise and the geese (and understands why the tortoise fell) has learned something about self-control that a lecture could never teach as well.
The stories on this site were not chosen because they are safe or simple. They were chosen because they are good. The Panchatantra includes stories about thieves and tricksters alongside stories about loyalty and courage. Aesop's fables sometimes end badly for characters who were not particularly wrong. The Arabian Nights contains stories that are morally complicated. We think that is appropriate — the world is morally complicated, and stories that pretend otherwise do children no favors.
The Blog
Our writing and storytelling blog covers the craft side of fiction — how great short stories are built, what the masters of the form understood, writing prompts for people who want to tell their own stories. We write about Chekhov and Tagore, about show-don't-tell and point of view, about the particular demands of flash fiction. If you are a reader who is also curious about how stories work, it is for you.
Who We Are
BestStories.in is part of the Hostao family of digital products. We are based in the Gulf region, with readers across India, the Middle East, and beyond. Our interest in stories is not commercial — it is the same interest that makes people tell stories around fires and at bedsides and across kitchen tables. We just wanted to build the best possible home for them online.
If you have a story you think should be on this site, or a tradition we have not covered, we would like to hear from you. Use the contact page.
